Sessions / Walk & Talk
Counselling on the move.
Not everyone finds it easy to sit in the therapy room face-to-face and talk. Some people think more clearly when they're moving, and for many, being in nature feels much more calming.

What
What is Walk & Talk?
Walk and Talk counselling combines the structure and depth of professional in-person therapy with the freedom of being outdoors. It's still proper counselling, fully confidential, led by you, guided by me, just in a different setting.
If the idea of sitting in a therapy room has felt like a barrier to seeking help, this might be the right starting point for you.
What to expect
What happens in a walk and talk session
Agree Location
We meet at an agreed point on a carefully chosen, quiet route in Sevenoaks or Eynsford. The routes I use are selected for privacy, accessibility, and the quality of the natural setting.
You won't be walking through a busy high street or past people you know.
Session structure
Sessions last 50 minutes, the same as an in-person session.
We walk and talk at whatever pace feels comfortable. There is no pressure to keep moving if you need to stop and I lead the route so that you can focus entirely on the conversation.
Calm & confidential
I will aim to keep our routes in accessible, but quieter areas. Everything that's said during a Walk and Talk session is bound by the same confidentiality as indoor therapy.
Why
Why walk & talk works
There's a growing body of evidence that movement and nature both have a positive effect on mood, stress, and anxiety. But beyond the research, many of my clients simply find they can access things more easily outdoors, thoughts that felt stuck in a therapy room start to move when the body moves too.
Walking side by side also changes the dynamic of a conversation. Without the intensity of direct eye contact, some things feel easier to say. People describe feeling less 'on the spot' and more able to think freely. For some, particularly those who are anxious about starting therapy, it can be a gentler way in.
I came to Walk and Talk therapy because I believe the setting matters.
Where you feel most at ease is often where the most useful conversations happen.
My love of nature has personally helped me throughout my life and I firmly believe in the power of being in the outdoors to help with clear thinking and perspectives.
It won't be for everyone, but even some normally in-person clients could benefit from the a walk and talk session now and then.
Good fit?
Is Walk and Talk right for you?
It may be a good fit if you:
- Find enclosed or formal spaces uncomfortable
- Are working with anxiety, low mood, stress or burnout
- Feel most yourself when you're outdoors
- Want to try counselling but the idea of a therapy room feels like too big a step
- Enjoy walking as part of your normal routine
It may be better indoors if you:
- Are working through acute trauma or crisis
- Have difficulty with outdoor environments due to physical health or mobility
- Might find the unpredictability of outdoor settings distracting
If you're not sure which would suit you best, the free initial call is a good place to talk that through.
Some clients also move between the two formats depending on what they're working on.
